According to foreign media reports, chip maker Intel is considering outsourcing the production of some high-end chips to Apple suppliers TSMC or Samsung Electronics, because the company is trying to solve the problem of its own manufacturing capacity.

Continuous delays in Intel's chip manufacturing process prompted it to consider outsourcing options. In the past few months, the company has stated many times that it is considering outsourcing part of its chip production to external manufacturers.

Previously, Intel CEO Bob Swan (BobSwan) also said that he will disclose the company's outsourcing plan on the quarterly earnings call held on January 21 this year.

According to sources, Intel has negotiated with the semiconductor divisions of TSMC and Samsung Electronics on the possibility of producing some of Intel’s chips.

However, the company has not yet made a final decision, and it is still hopeful that it will improve its manufacturing capabilities at the last minute. Foreign media pointed out that Intel hopes to make a breakthrough in improving its 7nm process at the last minute.

Last year, the company revealed that due to "defects" in the 7nm process, its 7nm chips will be delayed for 6 months. The company also said that because its 7-nanometer chip technology is six months behind the original plan, it may outsource some chip manufacturing and use other companies' foundries.

An Intel spokesperson referred to Swann's remarks at an investor conference in December last year. At that meeting, he said that Intel will continue to be an integrated device manufacturer, although the company is exploring outsourcing products from 2023, because the company's 7nm process problems have delayed the time to market for its 7nm chips.
